On Wednesday 30th April, the BiGYEC welcomed Dave Burnham from Video Production Company Visionmix as well as BiG YEC member Billy Lingard, to talk about crowd funding and film production.

Dave’s business, Visionmix, is a video production company based in Sheffield. The company has been providing creative & digital film making services to a wide range of clients for over 15 years. The company provides a range of services from filming and editing, to developing projects and ideas into digital, web or optical media formats.

Dave has experience filming all over the world, from sports matches here in the UK to charity programmes in Africa. He has recently filmed in Lithuania with the Team GB ice-hockey squad!

Billy Lingard, a student at Ecclesfield School and a BiG YEC member, also gave a presentation about what crowd-funding is and how a well-produced video can help you get funding for your idea. Billy focused on the positives and negatives of crowd funding and how it can be used as an alternative source of business investment to help get a new or existing project or idea up and running.

Dave followed on from this by showing BiG YEC members how professional videos are produced, from the making of storyboards to filming and editing. It was a great insight into seeing how professional videos are made, which the young entrepreneurs wouldn’t have learnt about otherwise.

BiG YEC members then got the chance to work with Dave on a video shoot about the BiG YEC, which will go towards getting further funding for the club in the future. The young entrepreneurs at the session got the chance to be part of the video as well as helping in the production of it.

The last BiGYEC event of the term is scheduled for the 9th of July. This will be the last BiG YEC session of this term; however BiG YEC will be back in the new academic year. Over the summer there will be the club’s first AGM (Annual General Meeting), so keep looking at the website to find out more details (http://www.bigyec.co.uk/ )
